How To Load Routes Onto Your Garmin Edge 305
There are 2 ways to get the routes you have downloaded from this site onto your Garmin Edge 305 cycling GPS.
- Creating a Route
- Using the Course (.crs) File
- Open the .gdb file with MapSource
- Open your routing preferences Edit>Preferences>Routing
- Set your route style to "Use Direct Routes" and set Vehicle to "Bicycle" and Apply.
- Click on the tab on the left called Tracks
- Right Click on the track name and select "Show selected track on map"
- Choose the Route Tool (right next to the little green flag for waypoints)
- Click on the start waypoint
- And then place yourself a few route points along the track to the end point.
- When done, right click and choose cancel.
- Open the route tab on the left and right click on the new route
- Choose route properties
- Un-check Auto Name and type a new name for the route
- Now is a good time to save your file.
- Then connect your GPS via the USB cable.
- Now, click on the little button in the centre to of the screen that says "Send to Device"
- When asked make sure "Routes" is checked, and click "OK".
- Now the route should be on your GPS.
- To access it on the 305, go to navigation, and select routes.
- Select the name of your route and select navigate.
- Jump on your bike and ride!!
- The unit will point in the direction of the start
- And when you reach the start it will point in the direction of the next route point.
- This will happen each time you get to a route point, until you reach the end.
- Open Training Centre and import the course File>Import>Course.
- Open the courses tab and check that the file name is listed.
- Connect your 305 via the USB cable.
- Click on the Send to Device button and make sure "courses" is checked.
- Now the course should be on your GPS.
- To access the course on your GPS switch it on.
- Open the training option and select courses.
- A list should appear, choose the course loaded.
- Jump on your bike and press start!
